Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect your personal data when you use the ComfyShade website at www.comfyshade.co.uk ("our site") and the ComfyShade mobile app ("the app"). It covers both. Where our practices differ between the site and the app, we say so in clearly-labelled subsections.
The data controller is Green & Brown Ltd ("we", "our", "us") of Building 2, Colne Bridge Road, Colne Bridge, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD5 0RH. We process your personal data in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
In short: we collect only what we need to sell you our products, run our website, and let the app control your blinds and sync your setup across your devices. We do not sell your personal data, and the app does not use advertising, third-party analytics, or track you across other apps or websites.
Information we collect
Website
Information you give us. When you fill in forms on our site or correspond with us by phone, email or otherwise — for example when you place an order, create a website account, contact us, enter a competition, promotion or survey, or report a problem — we collect the information you provide. This may include your name, billing and delivery address, email address and phone number.
Information we collect automatically. When you visit our site we automatically collect technical and usage information, including your Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and version, time zone setting, operating system and platform, and information about your visit such as pages viewed, products searched for or viewed, page response times, length of visits and page interaction information.
Cookies. Our site uses cookies to distinguish you from other users, which helps us provide a good experience and improve the site. For details of the cookies we use and how to control them, see our Cookie Policy. Non-essential cookies are only set with your consent.
App
Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address and password. If you use Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive a unique identifier from that provider and your email address instead of a password.
Your blinds and home setup. To operate your blinds and keep them in sync across your devices we store the names you give your blinds and rooms, your schedules, scenes and favourite positions, each motor's model and hardware identifier, and its battery status. We also store the motor's PIN so your household's devices can connect without re-entering it — this is encrypted at rest.
Approximate location. If you use sun-based schedules (e.g. "close at sunset"), the app uses your device's approximate location to calculate local sunrise and sunset times. This calculation happens on your device — your location is not sent to our servers, shared, or sold. You can decline or revoke this permission in your device settings; sun-based schedules simply won't be available.
Bluetooth. The app uses Bluetooth to find and control your blind motors directly. This communication is local between your phone and the motors.
Activity. In a shared home, we keep a short record of actions taken (for example, "closed the living room") so household members can see recent activity.
What the app does not collect. The app does not use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and does not collect your contacts, photos, or your browsing activity in other apps.
How we use your data, and our lawful bases

Who we share it with
We share personal data only as described below. We do not sell your personal data or share it with advertising networks.
- People you invite to your home (app). If you invite someone, they can see and control the blinds in that home and see its schedules and activity.
- Our support team. Our staff can view your account and home data to help you. Every access is logged, and staff cannot see your motor PINs.
- Service providers (sub-processors). These act on our instructions and only for the purposes above. They include our cloud hosting provider (which stores data within the UK/EU), payment and delivery providers for website orders, and Apple and Google when you choose to sign in with them in the app.
- Corporate group. Any member of our group — our subsidiaries or associated companies as defined in section 1159 of the Companies Act 2006 — where necessary for the purposes set out in this policy.
- Legal requirements. Where we are required by law, or to enforce our terms, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
Where your data is stored and how we protect it
Your data is stored on secure servers located in the UK/EU. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS, and sensitive data such as motor PINs is encrypted at rest. Where we have given you (or you have chosen) a password, you are responsible for keeping it confidential; please do not share it with anyone. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, but we use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data.
International transfers
Your data is primarily stored in the UK/EU. Where any data is transferred outside the UK (for example, by Apple or Google as sign-in providers), it is protected by appropriate safeguards as required by the UK GDPR, such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and home data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account we delete your personal data, except where we must retain limited information to meet a legal obligation (for example, order and accounting records are typically retained for six years). Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your app account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). This permanently removes your account and personal data from our systems. You can also request deletion without the app at comfyshade.co.uk/delete-account, or by emailing us at info@comfyshade.co.uk.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it (for example, for marketing or non-essential cookies), and the right to ask us not to process your personal data for direct marketing. There is no charge to exercise these rights, including making a subject access request.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@comfyshade.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would welcome the chance to address your concerns first.
Third-party links
Our site may contain links to and from third-party websites. If you follow a link, please note those websites have their own privacy policies and we do not accept responsibility or liability for them. Please check those policies before submitting any personal data.
Children
Our site and app are not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date above, and where appropriate notify you by email or in the app.

Any questions, comments or requests regarding this policy or your data should be sent to info@comfyshade.co.uk.
